🌤️ Weather Forecast – March 3, 2026 (1 PM)
📍 NYC & Fire Island
Today, any frozen precipitation has changed to rain. After this system exits, major snowmelt will begin as slightly warmer air moves in. Periods of fog — a classic late-season snow eater — will accelerate the melting process.
A good part of the week will stay raw overall with periodic showers. However, the warmer air may struggle to fully establish itself along the coast due to backdoor fronts and persistent sea breezes reinforced by 36° ocean water.
By the weekend, it may feel downright spring-like in NYC. In fact, next Monday could push into the 70s in the city. Fire Island will remain cooler until we get a strong enough NW gradient and land breeze to keep the cold ocean air offshore.

🌀 “We’ve got your weather — coming and going.”

The Sayville Ferry began the Fire Island run in 1894. For over one hundred years, Fire Island - with its wide ocean beaches, natural forests, wetlands and lively downtowns - has been an attraction for people from all over the world. Fire Island's central communities of Cherry Grove, Fire Island Pines, Water Island and Sailors Haven/Sunken Forest, a Fire Island National Seashore Park, are served by the Sayville Ferry, which is located on River Road in the South Shore hamlet of Sayville. Once on the island, the only means of transport is a hand-pulled wagon and the only rubber you burn is the soles of your shoes.
